2021 Distinguished Teaching Award
Dr. Leigh Ann Myers is a Professor of Mathematics at Northwestern State University of Louisiana (NSULA). She received her B.S. in Mathematics Education from Northwestern State University, her M.S. in Mathematics from the University of Southern Mississippi and her Ph.D. in Mathematics from Louisiana State University. She has been a member of the mathematics faculty at NSULA since 1994.

2016 Distinguished Teaching Award
Dr. Tommy Leavelle is a Professor of Mathematics at Mississippi College. He received his B.S. from Wayland Baptist College and his M.A. and Ph.D. from North Texas State University. He served for 8 years on the faculty at John Brown University before coming to Mississippi College in 1992 to serve as the chair of the Department of Mathematics and Computing Science. He has been back in the classroom full-time since 2004.

2014 Distinguished Teaching Award
Dr. Bernd Schroeder is the Edmondson/Crump Professor, Academic Director and Program Chair for the Program of Mathematics and Statistics at Louisiana Tech University. He received his bachelors degree from the TECHNISCHE UNIVERSITAT BERLIN in 1988 and his Ph.D. in Mathematics from Kansas State University in 1992. He has been teaching at LaTech since 1997.

2013 Distinguished Teaching Award
Dr. John Travis is Professor and Chair of Mathematics at Mississippi College in Clinton, MS. John received a B.A. in Mathematics from Mississippi College in 1982, a M.S. from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville in 1985, and a Ph.D. in Mathematical Sciences from Mississippi State University in 1994. He began work at MC in the fall semester of 1988 and has been there ever since.

Dr. Judith Covington is an Associate Professor of Mathematics at Louisiana State University Shreveport. Judith received a B.S. in Mathematics Education from Northwestern State University of Louisiana in 1985 and a Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of Louisiana Lafayette in 1993. 2011 Distinguished Teaching Award
Dr. Connie M. Campbell is a professor of Mathematics at Millsaps College in Jackson, MS. She received her B.A. from Huntingdon College and her M.S and Ph.D. from the University of Mississippi. Connie completed her dissertation under the supervision of Dr. Bill Staton in the area of extremal graph theory and joined the mathematics faculty at Millsaps College in 1992. Read More

2009 Distinguished Teaching Award
Dr. Vic Schneider earned a degree in Mathematics from USL (now UL) in 1966. In 1970, he earned a PhD in Mathematics from the University of Massachusetts, writing a dissertation in Topology, directed by Professor Larry Mann. After graduation, he returned to his Alma Mater, where he has spent these last 40 years teaching and studying Mathematics. He has authored, or co-authored, 27 research papers and sponsored, or co-sponsored seven PhD students. He has also served a department head and graduate coordinator. For the last 15 years he has been heavily involved with in-service workshops for mathematics teachers.

2008 Distinguished Teaching Award
Dr. George Cochran: I grew up in northeastern Oklahoma in a little town called Wagoner, which had two elementary schools, one junior high, and one high school. After graduating in 1977, I went the University of Oklahoma in Norman where I became a math major in my junior year and decided to go to graduate school in math during my senior year. I received a bachelor’s degree in math from the Univ. of Oklahoma in 1981, a master’s degree in math from the Univ. of California – Berkeley in 1983, and a Ph.D. in math from the Univ. of Michigan – Ann Arbor in 1989. 2007 Distinguished Teaching Award
Dr. Galen Turner received his B.S. from Loyola University (New Orleans) with majors in Mathematics and Religious Studies in 1992. He was a member of Pi Mu Epsilon and was awarded the Pi Mu Epsilon award in mathematics during his senior year. In addition, he was honored when the Journal of Theta Alpha Kappa, the National Honor Society for Religious Studies/Theology, published his undergraduate thesis on Children in the Hebrew Bible. 2006 Distinguished Teaching Award
Dr. Randall Wills received his B.A. from Lake Forest College in Mathematics and Physics in 1984. He was a member of the honor societies Phi Beta Kappa, Sigma Pi Sigma, and Sigma Xi, and he was named outstanding graduate in both mathematics and physics. He received his M.S. in Pure Mathematics from the University of Iowa in 1988. Read More

Dr. Jenna P. Carpenter received her B.S in mathematics at Louisiana Tech University in 1983. She received her M.S. and Ph.D. in mathematics at Louisiana State University, in 1986 and 1989, respectively. 2001 Distinguished Teaching Award
Dr. Kathleen Lopez received her B.S. degree in Mathematics from the University of Southwestern Louisiana, now the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, in 1972. The next eight years saw her residing at various air force bases and starting a family. She then returned to Lafayette and her alma mater in the M.S. program in Mathematics. Show More

2000 Distinguished Teaching Award
Dr. Stuart received a Ph.D. in mathematics from the University of Wisconsin in 1986 and joined the faculty at the University of Southern Mississippi in 1987. There he has distinguished himself as an outstanding teacher of mathematics, receiving excellent student evaluations, publishing several education related articles and delivering several education type conference talks, some of them to our own section. He has incorporated the latest technology into the classroom and helped other professors do the same. He has also been active in doing service for our profession, focusing on students and education.

1997 Distinguished Teaching Award
Dr. Carlos Spaht received his Ph.D. in Mathematics from LSU in 1970. Since 1990, most of his focus has been on LaPREP, a program which he envisioned, developed, directs, and for which he acquires funding sources. It is designed for high-ability middle and high school students with the purpose of encouraging and instructing them to successfully complete a college program, preferably in math, science, or engineering. LaPREP has been very successful, receiving accolades from local, state, and national organizations, including the National Science Foundation and the Mathematical Association of America.
